After a distinguished career in law enforcement, Mr. Bates is now focused on his digital imaging career. Gulf Coast Imagery was formed to showcase the wide array of digital imagery gleaned over the years as well as his historical restorations.

John’s self-illustrated articles have appeared in Nature Photographer, Trooper, and Super Models Unlimited magazines. He has provided digital images for such world-class events as the Annual Woodward Dream Cruise (MI), the Gauley River Race (WV), and the Dayton Air Show (OH). His diverse list of commercial clients includes International Trucks, General Motors, Detroit Brothers Choppers, Models of Michigan, Snap On Tools, Motown artists The Marvelettes, Purina Pro Plan dog food, American Specialty Cars (ASC),and even the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq and the First Nation Ojibway Tribe of northern Ontario.

John has also done extensive historical photo restorations for non-profit museums such as the Downtown Medicine Mound Preservation Group in association with the Portal To Texas History.

John is currently based in southwestFlorida. In his spare time, John enjoys time with his grandchildren, travel, the arts, and saltwater fishing in the inter-coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico. John also enjoys restoring antique firearms.
